Have you wanted to learn how to Skate ski? or have you had a lesson but would like to improve? Well now is the time!! We will meet at the Telluride Nordic Center in Telluride Town Park near the Ice Rink Building at 9:50am for our 10am lesson. The lesson is an hour and a half. Our instructors will teach us the basics of skate skiing based on your level of knowledge and experience. “Skate” skiing is actually a type of cross-country skiing. Both skate and classic are done on groomed cross-country tracks, but they require different motions and gear. Skate skiing is a side-to-side motion, like a gliding duck walk over a groomed corduroy track. When skating, skiers use shorter skis and poles than classic skiing. Skate skis are smooth on the bottom and skiers use a thin coat of wax to help them glide better in different snow conditions. This is a great outdoor activity that you can expand to the Valley Floor and the Trout Lake trails once you are familiar with the technique. The Nordic Center is giving TWN a discounted rate of $65 per person for the lesson ($100 is their normal charge). Please let Ellen know if you need to rent Skate skis and boots; A $15 rental fee will be paid directly to the Nordic Center. See you on Monday Jan 23rd.
